What Is A Tourist Guide?

Tourist Guides act as ambassadors of the country, they are the first to meet and welcome tourists and they are often the last ones to bid farewell to them when they leave the country.

A tourist guide is someone who points out the way and leads others on a trip or tour. Generally, a tourist guide will work at a specific location, city or province. In some cases, guides qualify to guide throughout an entire country.

South Africa

South Africa, officially the Republic of South Africa, is a country in Africa. It is bounded on the south by 2,798 kilometers of coastline of southern Africa stretching along the South Atlantic and Indian oceans, on the north by the neighbouring countries of Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe, and on the east by Mozambique and Swaziland, and surrounding the kingdom of Lesotho. South Africa is the 25th-largest country in the world by land area, and with close to 53 million people, is the world's 24th-most populous nation.

South Africa is a multi-ethnic society encompassing a wide variety of cultures, languages, and religions. Its pluralistic make-up is reflected in the constitution's recognition of 11 official languages, which is among the highest number of any country in the world. Two of these languages are of European origin: Afrikaans developed from Dutch and serves as the first language of most white and coloured South Africans; English reflects the legacy of British colonialism, and is commonly used in public and commercial life, though it is fourth-ranked as a spoken first language.

Annandale Road Stellenbosch

We decided to take a drive up Annandale road and visit some of the wine estates on a beautiful Saturdays afternoon.

Annandale Wine Estate Annandale Wine Estate Annandale Wine Estate

The first stop was the Annandale wine estate. The estate is a delightful rustic place both outside and inside tables for tastings. If your idea is to have a bring-n-braai on a Saturday afternoon then this is a great place to do it as the fire burns all day. Spend some time with friends over a bottle of great wine.
They have four tastings available. The Cavalier 2012 really impressed me. Both for the tongue and on the nose. They also have a R1000 bottle of Merlot available to buy, very limited.

Guardian Peak Wine Estate Guardian Peak Wine Estate Guardian Peak Wine Estate

The second stop was the Guardian Peak wine estate. The entrance is inviting and wheelchair friendly. The wine tasting takes place inside the restaurant by the bar.
They have several tastings available. I found the Merlot 2017 exceptionally good as a fresh easy drinking table wine.

Ernie Els Wine Estate Ernie Els Wine Estate Ernie Els Wine Estate

The last stop was the Ernie Els wine estate. You can tell they spend a lot of time and money on developing this estate into a commercial tasting facility. The sounds of water running and bird on the wind is only drowned out by the amount of people on a full day. With the beautiful entrance and amazing view it was disappointing to us as the place has a cold empty feel to it.
They have two main options for wine tasting. The Sauvignon Blanc 2017 and Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 were rather nice. I found the Big Easy Red while smelt pleasant was a bit too dry for my liking.

The afternoon was a good one and we highly recommend everyone to spend a few hours at the wine estates up Annandale road in Stellenbosch
