Born into a Dutch family in Cape Town, I am the only daughter and youngest of four children. My parents settled in the winelands of Paarl, where my father started an engineering company, manufacturing machinery for the food and wine industry. Through my travels I developed a love for land and the people of my country. Even though we always spoke Dutch at home I was schooled in English at La Rochelle, but I also learnt to speak Afrikaans fluently. I studied towards a B.Soc. Sc. (S.W.) at UCT. I decided to go to the Netherlands and having travelled Europe extensively, I returned to South Africa to further my education and obtained a B.Soc. Sc. (M.S.W.) Hons in 1979. I became an estate agent and rented holiday houses out to tourists. In 2013, I became a National Guide and have been very active in taking Flemish, Dutch and German Tour Groups throughout this dynamic, beautiful country, which is filled with ethnic and topographical diversity, the oldest cultural heritagean abundance of wild life, wide open spaces, long sandy beaches and plenty of sunshine.
