Ken Gillings has undertaken extensive research into South African Battlefields, especially those in KwaZulu-Natal. He has written several articles in various Journals and published four books. These are Battles of KwaZulu-Natal, the Relief of Ladysmith, Discovering the Battlefields of the Anglo-Zulu War and The Road to Ulundi Revisited. He served on the Provincial Committee of the National Monuments Council and Chaired the centenary commemorations of the Anglo-Boer War in KwaZulu-Natal. He has guided numerous prestigious organisations and high profile individuals around the Battlefields. His interests include outdoor life, camping and birding.
